Built in 1905 and designed for Lever by Lomax – Simpson. The present
Smithy was built to replace the original Smithy which was demolished to
make way for the St George’s church. In traditional half – timbered
black and white construction, and complete with spreading chestnut tree,
the Smithy stands by the junction of Smithy Hill and Neston Road. Smithy
Hill, built by Lever in 1913 was part of an elaborate road system
originally intended to enable the continuing development of the area.
